Everything You Wanted To Know About Wado Ichimonji

Everything You Wanted To Know About Wado Ichimonji

Wielded by Roronoa Zoro, one of the most beloved sword masters in the anime world, Wado Ichimonji is a fan-favourite weapon from the One Piece universe. The striking sword, featuring a long, slender, slightly curved blade with a single edge, is the epitome of elegance that is the signature of deadly traditional Japanese katanas.

Zoro's Swords

Zoro is the fearsome swordsman from the pirate crew Straw Hats, arguably the best pirate group navigating the four seas in search of One Piece. His impressive arsenal of swords or katanas makes each of his combat scenes an art form. He has wielded some of the most powerful swords over the years of serving as a loyal Straw Hat.

The Three-Sword Style

The memorable style of each formidable blade he wielded has become a moment to behold because of his inherent power, unparalleled abilities, and seamless harmony with his weapons. The first time he is seen by his friends as the wielder of the three swords, holding the dual katanas in his hands and the Wado Ichimonji in his mouth, is quite a moment to behold.

There are a few memorable swords we have witnessed Roronoa Zoro wielding in the anime so far. These impressive swords include the dual katanas he has wielded since his childhood. Both of these katanas were broken in his duel against the formidable Dracule Mihawk. Then we saw him as the wielder of the Cursed Sword, Sandai Kitetsu, despite its finicky nature.

Roronoa Zoro also fought with deadly katanas like the Yubashiri, Shusui, and Enma, a Great Grade Blade, as well as many other powerful blades that he deemed worthy. His swords became formidable weapons of justice in his hands. He was the first swordsman to use the three-sword style in the One Piece universe. Wielding 2 katanas in his hands and Wado Ichimonji in his mouth, he was a foe no one wanted to cross. Zoro even used Kamazo's scythe to employ his signature lethal three-sword fighting technique, using its handle length to grab it in his mouth and unleash its power. However, the energy and skill he displays when using Wado Ichimonji, his beautiful sword, which he values above all others, are just on another level.

The Enchanting Backstory of One Piece Wado Ichimonji

Wado Ichimonji is one of the most popular swords in the world-famous anime series One Piece. It was introduced as the prized heirloom weapon entrusted to the best student training with Swordmaster Koshiro at a dojo in Shimotsuki Village. The sword was introduced to the fans along with the backstory and abilities of Roronoa Zoro, arguably the most heartthrob status-worthy crew member of the Straw Hats. But, setting aside his killer looks, he is also one of the best swordsmen in the One Piece universe.

Forging Of The Wado Ichimonji

Wado Ichimonji is one of the most loved katanas in the anime universe. Along with its owner, it has become an iconic symbol of resilience, justice, and unwavering ambition in the face of all odds. It is a respected weapon and one of the 21 Great Grade Swords of the One Piece universe.

Wado Ichimonji was forged by the legendary swordsmith Shimotsuki Kozaburo. Besides Wado, he also forged another powerful Great Grade Blade Enma. Kozaburo has also crafted the impressive pair of katanas Zoro has had since his childhood. After Kozaburo's death, Wado came into possession of his son, Master Koushirou, who later gave it to Roronoa Zoro to honour his friendship it's previous owner, his late daughter Kuina.

Kuina's Death And Zoro's Quest

The Wado Ichimonji sword once belonged to Swordsmaster Koshiro’s daughter, Kuina. She was not only Master Koshiro’s beloved daughter and student but also a great swordsman, with the calibre to rise to the position of being the best swordsman in the world. She and Zoro developed a close relationship based on their shared dreams and passions. Zoro and Kuina made a promise that one of them would become the world's greatest swordsman. However, tragedy struck when Kuina fell down the stairs and died, leaving Zoro devastated.

In her memory, Zoro asked her father, Koshiro, for Kuina's sword, Wado Ichimonji, as a memento to his brave friend. Recognising his talent and determination, Koshiro agreed and gave the sword to Zoro. Filled with remorse over Kuina's death and a passion to fulfil his promise, Zoro left the dojo to continue his journey to become the world's greatest swordsman.

A Beautiful Sword With a Powerful Beholder

Wado Ichimonji is of great personal importance to Zoro, as he always keeps it with him as he travels with the Straw Hat Pirates, his chosen family, and works towards fulfilling his promise to Kuina. Although this katana does not require Haki, it is still extremely durable and has been through my epic battles along with its rightful owner. The Wado Ichimonji Blade started its journey in the second episode of season one of One Piece. It all started when a young wannabe pirate, Monkey D. Luffy, stole the three swords for a desperate Zoro on the verge of death under the command of tyrant Marines. Little did Luffy know that Zoro's expertise with his beloved Wado Ichimonji and the three swords would serve his pirate crew faithfully for years and years to come. Now, after more than a thousand episodes, it remains just as intense and even more powerful than before.

Wado's Appearance and Abilities

The Wado Ichimonji has the same overall length and appearance as a traditional Japanese katana. The katana features a white tsuka (hilt) and sheath, with a superpower-quality sharp blade embedded through a gold circular tsuba. Using its handle length, Zoro utilises his impressive fighting skills and grabs the handle between his teeth securely, demonstrating a fighting technique most could not even attempt with both hands.

The sword possesses the distinct ability to amplify the power of the beholder. In one of the first fights that Roronoa Zoro fought against another Supreme Grade Sword called Yoru, wielded by Dracule Mihawk's Yoru, Wado was the only sword that did not break from the fierce attacks instigated by Dracule.

One Piece Wado Ichimonji: Real Katana Samurai Sword Replica With White Scabbard

One Piece enthusiasts are always on the lookout for high-quality Wado Ichimonji replicas to complete their perfect collection. The overall length and blade material can affect the price of each replica. Carbon steel Wado Ichimonji replicas are more popular than other blade materials as they are a true testament to the craftsmanship of the swordmaker. Customers can buy these highly durable replicas at an affordable price, offering superior quality to wooden or cosplay foam alternatives. The heavier weight of carbon steel Wado Ichimonji replica swords can be cumbersome as part of a Roronoa Zoro cosplay costume, but they deserve to be added to the One Piece enthusiasts' shopping cart for their invaluable aesthetic and decor display power.
